2024 Toyota Tacoma. A few significant updates could be made to the upcoming 2024 Toyota Tacoma. Although the spy prototype doesn’t show much, for the time being we’re just looking at the initial round of spy images. The larger Tundra truck will serve as the foundation for the new Tacoma. The TNGA GA-F architecture will be the same for both variants. Naturally, a modified version of this platform will be provided for the Tacoma since it is a smaller vehicle.
I wrote several reports on the new suspension and even the new powertrain options. Of course, the biggest speculation is a hybrid model, which makes a lot of sense. The midsize pickup truck will also offer several exterior and interior upgrades, so here’s everything you need to know.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Redesign
Like we said, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma has been spied on for the first time. However, we couldn’t find many changes because the prototype wears heavy camouflage. We think the midsize Tacoma will continue to borrow style from the larger Toyota Tundra. Includes the same grille, bumper, headlights and taillights.
Regardless, even the fog lights will be the same, along with some of the exterior colors. We don’t know much about the wheels, but it looks like Toyota will drop new rims as an option. Toyota introduced a new package for the SR5 trim level. SX and Chrome plans are available now and the same plans will be offered in 2024.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Interior Rumors
A new interior is on its way, at least according to recent reports. The 2024 Toyota Tacoma will get more premium materials, which is nice to hear. Inexpensive materials will be found exclusively in the basic trim levels. However, entry-level models will be significantly improved. Thanks to that, expect a straighter cabin design with more advanced amenities and more durable materials.
Most likely, the midsize Tacoma will receive an updated digital gauge cluster and a slightly revised dashboard. With so many trim levels and packages, the Tacoma can be configured in 30 different ways, which is amazing. We’re waiting to see if the pickup will get a larger screen and a new infotainment system. On the other hand, we know that the current cabin setup will remain the same.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Powertrain Specification Performance
For starters, one of the most significant improvements to the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is the revised rear suspension. Our test mule clearly shows the coil-spring rear suspension setup. In addition, the 265-horsepower 2.4-liter engine that powers the Highlander SUV can be offered. The base four-cylinder engine should remain, but nothing is clear at this point.
Some speculation points to a hybrid drive as an option. This means that the Tacoma model will borrow the hybrid setup from its big brother, the Tundra. If that happens, the Tacoma Hybrid will make plenty of power, around 430 horsepower, and more than 550 lb-ft of torque.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Release date
Sales of the upcoming 2024 Toyota Tacoma will begin next year, likely in the summer of 2023. The current model starts at $27,000, so the 2024MY will cost a few hundred dollars more. The Japanese brand is expected to provide more details later this year.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Update
It’s no secret that the new 2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid is expected to be released next year, but what we don’t know yet are the specifications. However, looking at recent Toyota vehicles, we can make some pretty solid guesses about what to expect. The 2024 Toyota Tacoma will feature a new interior, improved infotainment, and exterior changes as well as some potential suspension tweaks—at least for TRD PRO models to make them more off-road capable. It will also see a number of powertrain changes with the existing 2.7-liter inline-4 and 3.5-liter engines, replacing the V-6 with a hybrid engine, along with potential non-hybrid options.
What Powertrain Will The 2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid Get?
One of the main complaints about the current-generation Tacoma is lackluster engine performance and sub-par fuel economy. While the Tundra’s big brother uses a hybrid powertrain for better towing power (not fuel economy), the Tacoma will prioritize fuel economy as a tailgate like the No. #15 on the new midsize truck consumer buying list.
That just leaves the question of which Toyota hybrid powertrain to get. Will it be a plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) like the RAV4 Prime, or will it have the Toyota Crown hybrid or Hybrid Max engine? We didn’t get a sneak peek at any of the engines in recent spy photos, which focus instead on the rear suspension changes.
RAV4 Prime vs Crown Option
The RAV4 Prime offers an electric-only range of up to 42 miles, using a parallel-sequential hybrid system. It produces 304 horsepower and can achieve a combined 38 mpg and above. Really impressive, though, it costs nearly $10,000 more than the RAV4 Hybrid, which gets 40 mpg. That last sentence makes us think Toyota won’t go along with the PHEV because of the price tag that pushes it way beyond the average market price for a midsize truck.
What about the Toyota Crown Hybrid System? The so-called Hybrid Max features a twin-engine system mated to a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission (not a continuously variable transmission!). It’s a performance-focused top-tier hybrid system that delivers an estimated 28 mpg combined fuel economy rating. The new car’s primary powertrain is the fuel-sipping Toyota Hybrid System (THS) we saw in the Sienna minivan, and it’s expected to produce around 38 mpg in the Crown.
Frankly, any of these hybrid systems would be better than the current Tacoma, which produces 20 mpg combined-engine. Toyota fans have been pretty disappointed with the Tundra’s hybrid system not producing great fuel economy numbers, and we can’t see the Tacoma following suit. You should prefer fuel economy over towing. Also, with the different off-road driving modes, the extra torque should be put to good use on dirt roads as well as off the line while still producing better MPG than the current model.
