2024 Acura RLX. Acura, Honda’s premium arm, launches the RLX Sport in 2024 in an effort to revive the once-famous athletic reputation of the luxury automaker. The 2024 Acura RLX is a positive stride for the firm, especially given the high-performance Type S badge and how it appears in early concept images. The high-performance version will include a turbocharged V-6 engine, while the powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engine will be standard.
All Acuras come standard with SH-AWD, the company’s custom all-wheel drive system designed to improve handling. New struts and a more complex chassis have improved the car’s ride and handling compared to the previous version. The RLX has Wi-Fi and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for mobile app connectivity. The most expensive Advance package includes a wireless charging pad and the best ELS sound system.
2024 Acura RLX Powertrain Specification Performance
The 2024 Acura RLX Sport comes standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 272 horsepower and a 10-speed automatic transmission. When the front tires lose traction or control, Acura’s optional all-wheel drive system (called SH-AWD) sends power to the rear wheels. Our test vehicle’s top speed is limited by the two tons loaded into it. The Honda Accord 2.0T we also tested has less power but is lighter and can reach 60 mph faster (5.9 seconds).
Acura hasn’t made a sports sedan in a while, but the RLX more than makes up for it with well-tuned chassis and fun driving dynamics. With a 355-hp turbo 3.0-liter V-6, quick-release 10-speed automatic, SH-AWD, and sport suspension, the Type S is a fine example of this philosophy. Summer tires and lighter 20-inch wheels make the RLX more maneuverable than the standard RLX. The first time we drove the car, we noted that the engine was powerful, fun to run, had good body control and stopped quickly and reliably.
It’s not as fast as, say, the Audi S4, and it has a solid ride that doesn’t absorb bumps in the road. The EPA claims that the front-wheel-drive RLX can achieve 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. With SH-AWD installed, gas mileage drops to 21/29 mpg city/highway.
The Acura’s performance is on par with front-wheel-drive competitors like the Volkswagen Arteon. However, the 3 Series gets better gas mileage because of its standard four-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive. The RLX Type S gets 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, according to EPA ratings. Up to this point, we’d only tested the base model, which we found scored 30 mpg on our highway fuel economy at 75 mph.
