2023 Ford Escape. Three years after transitioning into its fourth generation, the Ford Escape will receive a makeover for the 2023 model year. The revised model is also available as a plug-in hybrid, just like the previous generation. The 2023 Ford Escape PHEV has an updated exterior design that delivers a more expressive character to counteract the European-style idiocy of the outgoing model.
2023 Ford Escape Redesign
Up front, it features a new hood, new headlights with a sharper design, a new radiator grille with a higher position and octagonal shape, a bolder bumper, and new fog lights. Whereas the previous model had LED projector headlights, this new model has LED reflector headlights. In addition, it has an LED light strip that connects the headlights, a feature that was not available on the older model.
On the one hand, they all look the same. Ford didn’t bother replacing the Escape PHEV’s 18-inch multi-spoke wheels. In the rear, the 2023 Escape PHEV has changed taillights and revised skid plates. Ford has discontinued the Stone Blue and Blue Silver metallic colors and introduced two new paint options for the Escape PHEV with the MY2023 update – Cinnabar Red metallic and Vapor Blue metallic (pictured above).
2023 Ford Escape Interior Rumors
Inside, the 2023 Ford Escape PHEV has one noteworthy design change: the touchscreen infotainment system. Instead of the old model’s SYNC 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, the new model has the SYNC 4 infotainment system with a much larger 13.2-inch touchscreen.
The 13.2-inch screen has much smaller bezels and gives the dashboard a more upscale look. Cloud-connected navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Alexa, enhanced voice recognition, and Ford Power-Up OTA software updates are some of the key features of the SYNC 4 infotainment system. For interior color options, customers choose Ebony Compact or Space. Gray new.
2023 Ford Escape Powertrain Specification
The 2023 Ford Escape PHEV carries the previous model’s plug-in hybrid system, which combines a 2.5-liter engine with an electric motor that draws its energy from a 14.4-liter lithium-ion battery. The combined power of the electrified motors is 210 hp. Charging the battery pack takes 10-11 hours (Charger Level 1) / 3.5 hours (Charger Level 2). Ford expects EPA-est. Electric range to be the same as the previous model – 37 miles.
Four electric driving modes are available on the 2023 PHEV Escape: Auto EV, EV Now, EV Later, and EV Charge. In Auto EV, the vehicle automatically selects a power source (gas/electric). In EV Now, vehicles are powered by electric power. In EV Later, vehicles avoid using electric power and save battery charge for later use. In EV Charge, the battery pack charges while you’re driving on the gas.
The redesigned hybrid SUV will be extremely fuel efficient and should be its main selling point. If customers drive less than 30 miles a day, they can count on the Escape PHEV’s electric power and charge the battery as soon as they get home.
2023 Ford Escape Release Date And Price
Available in a fully loaded single cabin only, the 2023 Ford Escape PHEV retails for $38,500 (plus $1,495 destination fee). By comparison, the outgoing model is available in three grades (SE, SEL, Titanium), with prices starting at $35,455, making it more affordable.
The 2023 Ford Escape PHEV is available to order and will begin arriving at Ford dealerships in the US in early 2023.

2023 Ford Escape Update
The fourth generation Ford Escape will be released in 2020 – so it’s definitely not the time for a complete redesign. But it’s time for a mid-cycle update, which is difficult in Escape 2023. Here are five things you need to know about this significant update to the compact SUV.
A Design Transformation Inside And Out
The biggest change of note is the 2023 Escape’s front fascia. Gone is the cartoony nose, and instead you see a more rugged and aggressive grille, stronger horizontal lines, and new headlight treatment. The tail lights and rear fascia also got an upgrade. Inside, you have more premium materials and an additional 13.2-inch horizontal infotainment screen.
You Get The ST-Line Sport Trim
Ford has shaken up the trim strategy for the 2023 Escape by ditching the S, SE, and SEL moniker in favor of “Base” and “Active” trims. The name of the Titanium model has also been changed and it will be called “Platinum”. New for 2023 is the ST-Line Sport trim. It’s primarily an appearance package, and you get darker accents, red interior stitching accents, and a flat-bottom steering wheel.
With a $995 cut to the Active version, Ford expects this model to account for 50% of the Escape’s mix in 2023.
4 Power Unit Options
The 2023 Escape still offers two gas and two hybrid options. The base engine will be the 181-hp, 1.5-liter EcoBoost, and the top-level engine will be the 250-hp, 2.0-liter EcoBoost. For 2023, Ford continues to produce its plug-in hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, which is powered by a 2.5-liter hybrid engine. The Base and Active trims come standard with a 1.5-liter EcoBoost, and the ST-Line is available with a 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter EcoBoost plus a hybrid powertrain. The Platinum is available with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost or hybrid powertrain. PHEV is a standalone trim at the higher end of the trim spectrum.
While the hybrid engine remains the same, power output appears to have been altered as Ford often uses the word “target” when discussing engine specs. The hybrid produces a target power of 199 horsepower and an estimated range of 550 miles. The PHEV delivers a target 210 horsepower and an electric-only range of 37 miles.
Cool New Feature
In addition to the impressive 13.2-inch screen, there are a number of new features the 2023 Escape gets. In the tech realm, it now comes standard with Sync 4 (think wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto), an available 360 camera, Alexa connectivity, blind spot assist, and updates. through the air.
In the non-tech realm, the 2023 Escape adds a 6-inch slider to the rear seats. This means you can optimize legroom or load capacity according to your needs.
As expected, there was a slight increase in price with the new model year, but with all the extra content, honestly, I expected the price to jump even more.
