2021 Volkswagen SMV Review – Design, Engine, Release date and Price

Like any other manufacturer, Volkswagen also adds more models to the SUV range. The upcoming 2021 Volkswagen SMV is the latest model based on the concept of the same name. The latest spy shots appeared on the Internet and we saw a new German SUV. According to initial reports, this model is sold in China and Europe. The ultimate goal, of course, is to reach American soil.

It is interesting that the 2021 Volkswagen SMV will be the largest SUV operating on the company’s famous MQB platform. Even the interior photos are available and we can see some really cool features. Finally, this SUV will use a turbocharged engine and we can also expect the optional powertrain on offer.

2021 Volkswagen SMV spy shots

Spy photos of 2021 Volkswagen SMV leaked online a few days ago. It seems that the German car manufacturer will deviate slightly from the original SMV concept. This SUV is 201 inches long and looks really bulky. In addition, it is the largest vehicle operating on the MQB architecture. The concept was unveiled last April and we have been waiting for the production model ever since.

The prototype appears closer to the actual minivan than the SUV. The roof line is relatively flat, which should provide sufficient head space. On the other hand, we are not sure whether the production model will look as attractive as the concept. The SMV model also looks harmonious and has small air intakes. The light bar is understandably unavailable, and it’s also a surprise.

In April, Volkswagen released the SMV blackout concept. For this reason, we could not see what is contained in these SUVs. From what we know, the new 2021 Volkswagen SMV is a seven-seat model. In addition, this SUV provides enough legroom and head space in all three rows. Spy photos show at least one thing. First of all, a large infotainment screen appears at first glance.

In addition, a digital dashboard and flat-bottom steering wheel are available. The center console features a floating design and a small selection arm. In addition, the SMV model provides ample storage space, possibly for an optional wireless charging station. Finally, there is also leather upholstery and Alcantara with contrast stitching.

2021 Volkswagen SMV Engine choices

Once it arrives, it will deploy the all-new 2021 Volkswagen SMV four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. Exact engine specifications are not yet available. On the other hand, the 2.5-liter VR6 turbo engine is optional. This unit can produce 295 horsepower and a torque of 368 lbs. Both engine options are available with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

In addition, the all-wheel drive system will be optional at the basic cutting level. Higher cutting levels likely provide this advanced system as standard. Some reports already predict a strong version. We will provide more details as soon as they become official.

2021 Volkswagen SMV price and release date

The upcoming 2021 Volkswagen SMV will be larger than the Atlas model. Just like any other auto manufacturer, Volkswagen is also trying to provide different sizes in the SUV category. The SMV model is produced in China. With that in mind, we do not expect sales to go anywhere, at least not in the first year. However, in 2022 we will see these SUVs in Europe and possibly the United States. In China, sales will start sometime in 2021.
